Your privacy is important to us

Motive Financial (Motive), a division of Canadian Western Bank ("the Bank"), is committed to the protection of your privacy while providing a high standard of customer service. This commitment to privacy includes treating you fairly and with respect and complying with the principles set out in the Bank's Privacy Code.

Personal information is information that identifies you. It includes your name and address, your age and gender, your personal financial records, identification numbers such as your Social Insurance Number, personal references, and employment records. Personal information shall be accurate, complete and up-to-date and shall be protected by security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.

The Bank will only collect personal information from you by fair and lawful means and for legitimate and necessary reasons, which include: to identify you; to protect you and the Bank from fraud and error; to comply with legal requirements; to understand your needs; to determine your eligibility for our products and services; and to help the Bank match its products and services to your needs. The Income Tax Act requires that the Bank ask you for your Social Insurance Number (SIN) in connection with interest bearing accounts.We use your SIN to obtain a credit report in order to verify your identity. This credit report acts as a second piece of identification, and your SIN is used for accuracy in matching personal information on this report. The credit report is to verify your personal information and to determine your credit limits for Overdraft Protection. If you do not want your SIN used for this purpose, you have the option to opt out. Motive will proceed with obtaining a credit report to verify your identify using other information contained in your application. Please note: without the SIN, the credit report may not be complete or accurate and therefore, may affect our decision to open your account.

The Bank will not collect more information than is needed, and will tell you why it is needed.

The Bank will, under normal circumstances, obtain your consent to collect, use, or disclose your personal information. Your personal information may be shared, to the extent permitted by law, within the Bank. With this more comprehensive understanding, the Bank will be better able to meet your needs as they grow and change. The Bank will only release your information to outside parties with your consent, when required or permitted by law, for the promotion of its products or services, or for servicing purposes, for example cheque printers, marketing surveys and third-party processors. These outside parties may be located in other jurisdictions or countries. Personal information shall be retained only as long as necessary for the purposes identified by the Bank.


By providing your personal information to the Bank, it will be assumed, unless the Bank hears from you to the contrary, that you have consented and are consenting to this use and disclosure, including the photocopying of your photo ID to better identify and protect you. You may withdraw all or part of your consent for the Bank to use your personal information within certain legal restrictions. If consent is withdrawn, the Bank may be limited in the services and products that can be provided to you.


The Bank may tell you about its products or services through direct mail, e-mail, by phone, or by other means. If you do not wish us to do so, contact the Bank by e-mail or by telephone. This would not limit information that may be placed on the Website or during conversations with Bank staff.

You have the right to request access to your personal information. Upon your e-mail or telephone request, you shall be informed of the existence, use and disclosure of your personal information and you shall be given access to that information, except where inappropriate, within thirty (30) days of your request.
